New Frontiers' Nature-Based Programming:
Today, more than ever, a child’s connection with nature is essential
to his or her overall well-being. In his groundbreaking book,
The Last Child in the Woods, Richard Louv draws attention to the
calming yet inspiring effects of interactions with nature. Louv states
that nature invites and challenges children to use their imaginations
in creating constantly evolving entertainment, that nature teaches
broad patterns and phenomena that can be generalized throughout
the world turning the simple experience of a hike through
sunny woods into a global learning moment. Natural experiences have been linked to decreases in attention deficit and stress and increases in patient perseverance, focus, and cognitive ability.
New Frontiers enthusiastically embraces the work of Louv and countless others in the movement to return our children to nature.
